Action films have evolved quite a bit during the past century. The first action films were the swashbuckling adventures of Errol Flynn and Douglas Fairbanks. As the movie genre progressed, we also saw films such as Dirty Harry, which was one of the earliest films to feature a car chase scene.

In the next 20 years, Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis and Mel Gibson appeared on the screen, making action movies a bona fide movie genre.
